The First Serial Killers

Many believe Jack the Ripper was the first true “serial killer”. However, the first cases of serial killling can go as far back as the 1500’s with Gilles De Rais and Elisabeth Countess Bathory who were often thought to be vampires or werewolves!

Because Jack the Ripper’s sexual and continuous nature of his crimes is more parallel with the more recent serial killings, serial killers are widely accepted to be only about 125 years old. There have been several books and movies about Jack the Ripper. Wikipedia has a thorough biography on Jack the Ripper murders and case.
